Calamintha nepeta

This plant was used by Dioscorides, a Greek physician, botanist, and pharmacist who worked in Rome at the time of emperor Nero.
The Latin term nepeta comes from the Etruscan town Nepete, where it was grown and used as medicinal herb.
It is steam-distilled from the whole plant.

Lesser Calamint

The lesser calamint essential oil has a remarkable antifungal, antibacterial, and antibiotic action. It is also used to ease digestions, and to treat rheumatisms, cold feeling in the joints, and muscle aches.

Suggested uses:

  • Home diffuser: add 2 drops of essential oil to 100 ml of water
  • Bathtub: emulsify 3-4 drops of essential oil with coarse salt — or alternatively milk, cream, or honey — to add to the hot water (so that the oil doesn’t evaporate due to the heat)
  • Massages: dilute 1 drop of essential oil in a tablespoon of carrier oil
  • Food: we recommend 1 drop per 200-250 gr of food, to add after cooking.

Caution: Be careful when you use it. Do not use in case of chronic diseases, pregnancy, or when breastfeeding.
If in doubt, please consult your doctor/naturopath.
