Bergamot orange
Citrus Bergamia

The 90% of essential oil of bergamot orange — whose name (maybe of Turkish origin) means ‘pear tree of the Lord’ — is produced along the southern coast of Reggio Calabria province.
With bergamot orange, Giovanni Paolo Feminis in the 1700s created the ‘Aqua Mirabilis’, that would later become the Eau de Cologne.
The essential oil is obtained by cold-pressing the peels.
It has a fresh, citrus aroma with a slightly bitter note.

Bergamot orange

It’s an effective antidepressant that can restore good mood and a healthy detachment from problems. It can be used for skin problems — psoriasis, acne, eczema, and cold sores — as well as pulmonary infections, laryngitis, and halitosis. Suitably diluted, it can be used to wash the affected area in case of itching caused by candida, cystitis, and hemorrhoids.

Suggested uses:

Home diffuser: add between 3 and 6 drops to 100 ml of water
Bathtub: emulsify 8-10 drops of essential oil with coarse salt — or alternatively milk, cream, or honey — to add to the hot water (so that the oil doesn’t evaporate due to the heat)
Massages: we recommend to dilute 3-5 drops of essential oil in a tablespoon of carrier oil
Cosmetic use: add 3-5 drops of essential oil to one tablespoon of natural moisturizer
Food: we recommend 1-2 drops per 100 gr of food, to add after cooking (we suggest to always start with the lower dose and then increase it later, if preferred).

Caution: do not use in case of chronic diseases, pregnancy, or when breastfeeding.
If in doubt, please consult your doctor/naturopath.
This essential oil can give sensitive reactions with sunlight. Be careful.
